Comfort & equipment in the Nightjet
The ÖBB Nightjet is a popular way of travelling comfortably through Europe overnight. Passengers can choose between three travel categories depending on their comfort requirements and budget: Seating coach, Couchette car and Sleeping car. Each category offers its own advantages for a relaxed overnight train journey.
Sleeping car
The Sleeping car is the most comfortable option. Compartments can be booked as singles, doubles or triples. The beds are real, freshly made-up sleeping accommodation with mattresses, blankets and pillows. Deluxe compartments even have a private shower and toilet, while standard sleeper compartments use shared toilets in the corridor. A small breakfast is served in the morning and is included in the price. The sleeper carriages offer the greatest possible privacy and comfort for travellers who want to arrive well rested.
There are the following categories:
- 3-bed compartment, with or without private shower and WC
- 2-bed compartment, with or without private shower and WC
- 1-bed compartment, with or without private shower and WC
If you book a compartment without a private shower and toilet, you will find toilets and a washroom at the end of the carriage in the corridor. Breakfast is served in the sleeping car in the morning, the ingredients of which you can choose the evening before.
Couchette car
In the Couchette car a compartment is typically shared by four to six people. The couches are simple, upholstered benches arranged one above the other. A simple blanket, a sheet and a pillow are provided. There are separate compartments for women and mixed compartments, also available for single use on request for an extra charge. The couchette coach offers good value for money for an overnight journey with horizontal sleeping accommodation, but without the comfort of a sleeping car.
In the morning you will receive a small breakfast. Toilets and a washroom can be found at the end of the carriage.
Seat
The Seating coach in the classic ÖBB Nightjet is the simplest and cheapest category. The coaches usually consist of open open-plan or classic compartment coaches with six seats per compartment. The seats can be easily reclined, but do not offer a real lying surface. This category is particularly suitable for short journeys or for travellers with a limited budget. There are no beds or real reclining facilities, just comfortable seating, some with power sockets and simple lighting.
Toilets and washroom can be found at the end of the carriage.
Whether seat, couchette or sleeper carriage - the ÖBB Nightjet combines sustainability with comfort and makes travelling by train overnight an attractive alternative to flying.
Note: Breakfast in the sleeping car included!
