New generation of the nightjet night train
The first nightjet night trains of the new generation will be running from December 2023. Including on this train connection from Hamburg and Innsbruck.
They consist of two seating carriages, three couchette carriages and two sleeping carriages and offer significantly more comfort and, above all, more privacy, including the favourable "mini cabins" (private sleeping pods like in a Japanese hotel).
The ÖBB video gives a first impression. I will add photos as soon as I have travelled in the new Nightjet myself 🙂
A big compliment to ÖBB for taking travelling by night train to a new, innovative level of comfort.

Hello Peter,
I am travelling with the Nightjet from Hamburg to Munich / NJ 40491. I can't find which track it departs from at Dammtor or Hauptbahnhof.
Would be very grateful for this information.
With thanks in advance!
Simone Krüger
Hello Simone.
The track can also change depending on the day.
But should usually be platform 14 at Hamburg Central Station. And Dammtor platform 4.
I always get on at Altona (platform 11). The train is usually ready there 30 minutes before departure. 🙂
I hope this helps you.
Many greetings, Peter 🙂
Hello.
You can book the train here: https://shop.oebbtickets.at/en/ticket?tabIndex=2
Select the option "Motorail Train" and then "Austria to Germany" and "Innsbruck to Hamburg".
Then you can book the train for tomorrow.
You have to fill in your car brand and it tells you if the size fits the train requirements.
Enjoy your trip, it is really comfortable with the car on the train.
Important: just select "HAMBURG (all stations)" as destination. As the cars can only be unloaded in "Hamburg Altona" station - which is by the way very interessting: the cars exit the station via the passenger platform (more or less) - and it is secured by the station staff.
Peter 🙂
Hello , I would like to book a night train from Hamburg to Innsbruck.
The connection is not bookable
What can I do?
Hello. What date would you like it to be?
And on which internet site do you book?
It may be for the following reason:
- the booking date is too far in the future
- there is construction work on the route and therefore the connection is not yet safe, i.e. not yet bookable.
In both cases, unfortunately, you have to wait - not nice, but unfortunately unchangeable.
Many greetings, Peter 🙂
