We (4 people, each in a 2-person compartment) want to take the night train from Rome back to Rosenheim on 3.10.23. Unfortunately, it does not seem to be bookable. Unfortunately, it does not seem to be bookable.
    What do you advise

    1. Hello.
There is construction work on this route on the travel date mentioned.
As long as ÖBB is not sure at which times and whether the night train can run on this date, it will not be released for booking.
Therefore (unfortunately not satisfying the answer) try again and again until it is bookable.
      Many greetings, Peter

  2. Anne Chu-Riggers

    hello,
we want to travel on 1.11.23 with the Nightjet from Rome to Munich. Unfortunately, it always says: no offer available. This actually happens on every date.
    Can you help?
    Kind regards, Anne

    1. Hello Anne.
Normally the ticket is bookable - Nightjet tickets can be purchased up to 180 days before the journey.
However, some days are not yet bookable and this usually has the following reason: ÖBB is not sure whether the train can run on a certain date, because there may be construction sites in this period or similar. Therefore, the train is only released later when it is certain that it can actually run.
Thus a rather unsatisfactory answer: wait and try from day to day whether it is bookable. It is bookable on 31.10.2023. If the sleeper is fully booked (which can happen quite quickly), then a couchette compartment booked as a private compartment (only you and your companions are in it, no strangers) is also a good option.
      Many greetings, Peter 🙂

    Hello,

Is there a guideline for how long you have to stand at the track beforehand? In Munich and on the return journey in Rome?
Is it already possible to name the respective tracks? Also for the return journey from Rome to Munich?
On the return journey, we only got seat cars. Is it possible to book breakfast on the train here?
My outward journey date from Munich is 10.4.2023 and the return journey on 14.04.2023. Can I assume that the trains will run through. Without changing trains despite road works?
Who can I contact if I want to find out whether a couchette compartment has spontaneously become available for the return journey?

    Many greetings

    Matthias

    1. Hello Matthias.
There is no standard time limit. You are well served with 20 minutes before departure, as your seat is reserved anyway.
In Rome, my experience is: the track is called at quite short notice. On my last trip it was only 10 minutes before departure. It's best to stay inside (Roma Termini) after your ticket has been checked at the entrance to the tracks.
I also only saw the sign for the night train to Vienna, which also had the carriages to Munich attached. So don't get confused.
Breakfast in the seating car: you can ask in the couchette car, although I would rather recommend the offer at Munich station.
Free seats in couchettes: go to a nightjet employee, who can check if there are any seats available.
      Have a good trip, Peter

  4. Hello.
We would like to travel as a family of 5 during the Whitsun holidays from 29.05. - 05.06. from Munich to Rome and then safely back again.
    2 adults, 1 teenager and 2 children ( 5 + 2 years)
On your site and also at ÖBB you read about line closures that could already be in this period. That worries me.
Should we leave it at that, so that we don't get into trouble?
I don't want to have to change trains with the kids in the middle of the night, possibly in a complicated way with even longer waiting times, so that we can continue to Rome.
    greetings Toni

    1. Hello Toni.
The best thing to do is to check the ÖBB website. If the train is bookable, it will run.
However, I assume that it will probably be fully booked over Whitsun. The Munich-Rome night train can often only be booked long in advance if you don't have flexible travel dates. Unfortunately. :/
Optional and not always quite so full is the Night Train Stuttgart to Venice. And from there it would be good to go on to Rome.
But then you have two travel sections (and I don't know which region of Germany you come from) - and that's exhausting again with children. I know this myself, I often travel with my little son.
      Many greetings, Peter 🙂

  5. Christina Herrmann

The night train Munich-Rome is not shown on any booking link.
    Doesn't it exist any more?
    Christina

      1. Christina Herrmann

Thanks for the information. I just wanted to have a look at the prices.
The definite date has not yet been set.

        Greetings
        Christina

        1. It is best to look for travel dates from Monday to Thursday. Friday, Saturday, Sunday and sometimes Monday are more expensive. The prices depend on the capacity utilisation (economy prices). And book in good time - spontaneous travel is rather "difficult" and expensive, as there is really a "hype" about night train travel. But it is also relaxed and fun 🙂 .
Have a good trip - and if you have any questions, just ask. Peter 🙂

  6. Hello, I would like to travel from Munich to Rome by night train in a 4-seater couchette or similar as a single person on 05.05.2022. The problem is that I have my bicycle with me. How and with whom can I best book it?

    1. Hello Martin.
At the moment, you can only travel by bike and ÖBB nightjet between Austria, Switzerland and Germany. Unfortunately not to Italy.
If you have any questions, please contact ÖBB, the operator of the nightjets, directly. Contact details you can find here.
Optional: take the bike apart (front wheel) and put it in a bike bag. But this is a problem in the split couchette. It will be very cramped for all passengers. It's better to book a sleeping car for yourself. Or a private (just for you) couchette compartment.
I also often travel by bike and train, unfortunately it is often not optimal.
      Many greetings, Peter 🙂

    1. Hello Andreia.
What date in October are you looking for?
In general, the Nightjet Munich-Rome runs as usual also in October.
However, e.g. on 02 and 03 October already with departure at 16:35 / 16:45 in Munich. And then a 4-hour stopover in Salzburg (18-22 hrs) - where you can stay on the train.
Hope this helps. If not, please ask again. 🙂
      Have a good trip, Peter

  7. Michael Feustel

    Hello,
I would like a triple sleeper compartment for 3 people (family) "Deluxe" with private bathroom, shower and WC on 03.08. from Munich to Rome.
But I can't find the selection option for this category ?!?
    Can you help me?

    Greetings
    Michael Feustel

    1. Hello Mr Feustel.

      Go to the ÖBB website.
This is a little confusing, you need to select the date and number of passengers at the top.
As it looks, seating cars and couchette cars can no longer be booked (full), only a normal sleeping car compartment for 3 persons (without shower and toilet).
In my experience, the toilet in the corridor is always really clean.
The total price for one child (14 years) without Bahncards is currently EUR 376.

An option I like to ride, but really only if you're into it:
Daytime train connection from Munich via Chur and from here the absolutely great train route through the Alps to Chur. Tickets from EUR 29 at the railway. This connection is possible with only 2 changes. Journey time 9 hours. Photos and description here: https://rail.cc/de/blog/interrail-strecke-glacier-express

Dinner inexpensive, pizza, etc, in Tirano. Overnight stay in Tirano, e.g. Hotel Bernina

The next morning by regional train to Milan (2:30 hours) and from Milan by high-speed train to Rome. Here information and pictures: https://rail.cc/de/blog/rom-mailand
Ticket prices and journey times at Omio.

      Hope this helps.

Have a good trip, Peter 🙂

    1. Hello Maria Theresa.
The night train used to stop in "Chiusi-Chianciano Terme". But in the meantime, unfortunately, it no longer does.
So you would have to get off in Florence and take a "Intercity" or "Regional Veloce"Change trains. The journey from Florence to Chiusi-Chianciano Terme takes 1:30 to 1:45 hours, depending on the connection. Train tickets cost 12 to 14 EUR and you can buy them easily at Omio Buy
Have a good trip and best regards, Peter 🙂
