Frequently asked questions about PKP Intercity night train
What travel categories are available on the PKP Intercity night train?
On the PKP Intercity night train, there are seats, couchettes and sleeping cars. Couchettes have four or six berths. Sleeping cars are available as Single, Double or Triple. On certain connections, there are also Deluxe compartments with private shower and WC.
What is the difference between a couchette and a sleeping car?
The couchette is simpler and cheaper. You travel in a compartment with four or six berths and receive bedding. The sleeping car is more comfortable: you have a made-up bed, a washbasin in the compartment, more privacy, WARS assistance and, depending on the connection, a snack and breakfast.
What does the Deluxe sleeping car offer with PKP Intercity?
The Deluxe sleeping car is the most comfortable category. The compartment can be offered as Single or Double and has a private bathroom with shower and WC. It also includes a made-up bed, hygiene set, towels, shower gel, dental care set, slippers, welcome snack and breakfast.
Does every PKP sleeping car have a shower?
No. In the Standard sleeping car, every compartment has a washbasin, but not every compartment has a private shower. On international routes, PKP Intercity mentions a shower in the carriage. A private bathroom with shower and WC is available in the Deluxe compartment, if this category is available on the connection.
Is bedding included on the PKP Intercity night train?
Yes. In the couchette, you receive bedding with pillow, blanket and sheet. In the sleeping car, the beds are already made up.
Is there breakfast in the PKP sleeping car?
Yes, depending on the connection, breakfast is included in the sleeping car. On international routes, PKP Intercity lists a sweet or savoury breakfast as well as coffee or tea. In the Deluxe compartment, a welcome snack is also included.
Are there snacks and drinks on the PKP night train?
Yes. In the couchette and sleeping car, you can buy snacks as well as hot and cold drinks from the WARS attendant. PKP Intercity also mentions simple hot dishes and sleep accessories such as a sleep mask or earplugs.
Will I be woken up on the PKP night train?
Yes. The WARS attendant can wake you at the agreed time, at the latest about 30 minutes before your destination station. This is especially practical if you get off during the night or early in the morning.
Is there a quiet period on the PKP Intercity night train?
Yes. PKP Intercity states a quiet period from 22:00 to 06:00. During this time, the main light in the compartment should only be switched on with the consent of all travellers.
Can I lock the compartment?
Yes. PKP Intercity mentions additional locks in the compartments so that you have more privacy and peace during the journey.
Are there women-only compartments in the sleeping car?
Yes. In the sleeping car, PKP Intercity offers women-only compartments. In couchettes, compartments are mixed. Exceptions may apply for people travelling together or families.
Can I travel alone in the sleeping car?
Yes. If you want to travel alone and have maximum privacy, book a Single compartment. In Double or Triple, depending on availability, you can also book individual beds, but then you share the compartment with other travellers.
Can a child share a berth with me?
Yes. PKP Intercity states that a child under 10 years old can use one berth together with an accompanying adult.
Can I travel with a dog or cat on the PKP night train?
Yes, but only under suitable conditions. PKP Intercity mentions travelling with a dog or cat when the entire compartment is booked exclusively. Before booking, check the conditions and, for international journeys, the animal entry requirements as well.
Can I take my bicycle on the PKP night train?
This must be checked for the specific connection you want. Regular bicycles are not automatically accepted on night trains. If no bicycle space is offered during booking, you should not assume that bicycle transport is possible.
Is the PKP Intercity night train suitable for families?
Yes, especially in the couchette or sleeping car. Families travel more comfortably if they can book an entire compartment. For children, the night train is often more pleasant than a long daytime journey, especially if the family stays together in the compartment.
What is the best category on the PKP Intercity night train?
For long overnight journeys, the sleeping car is the best choice. It offers made-up beds, a washbasin, WARS assistance, wake-up service and, depending on the connection, breakfast. Deluxe is even more comfortable if you want a private bathroom with shower and WC. The couchette is the best compromise between price and rest.
Can I take my car or motorcycle on the PKP night train?
No. PKP Intercity night trains are not car trains and do not transport cars or motorcycles. For onward travel at your destination, check rental cars, car sharing, local buses or further rail connections.
