Caledonian Sleeper seat
Seat

Seated Coach

The lowest-priced travel category on the Caledonian Sleeper: a reserved seat with adjustable headrest, footrest, reading light, table, power socket, USB port and lockable storage for personal items.

The Seated Coach is the simplest and lowest-priced travel category on the Caledonian Sleeper. You travel in a reserved seat and get more equipment than in many traditional seated coaches: adjustable headrest, footrest, reading light, folding table, power socket, USB port, Wi-Fi and lockable storage for personal items. The seats recline slightly; according to Caledonian Sleeper, the seat base moves forward so that other passengers are not disturbed.

This category makes sense if you want to travel between London and Scotland as cheaply as possible. For a truly restful night, however, it is much simpler than having your own room. You sit during the night, have less privacy and no private washing or sanitary area.

Also important: guests in the Seated Coach do not have access to the Club Car. Food and drinks can, however, be ordered from the at-seat offer using the button at the seat. On the route between London and Fort William, a coach change at Edinburgh Waverley may also be required in the Seated Coach.

Lowest-priced category, at-seat service for food and drinks, lockable storage, Wi-Fi, power socket and USB port.
Notes / Limitations
No access to the Club Car. For a long overnight journey, a private room is much more comfortable.
Caledonian Sleeper Classic Room
Private room

Classic Room

The Classic Room is the solid sleeping-car category on the Caledonian Sleeper: private room with two bunk beds, Glencraft mattresses, washbasin, Wi-Fi, power sockets and room service.

The Classic Room is the good standard category on the Caledonian Sleeper. You travel in a private room with two bunk beds, handmade Glencraft mattresses and your own washbasin. The room offers significantly more quiet and privacy than the Seated Coach and is the obvious choice if you really want to sleep overnight.

The Classic Room also offers Wi-Fi, USB charging points, sockets for small devices, keycard access, temperature control, dimmable light and a sleep kit. Breakfast and room service are available, but not automatically included. The Club Car can be used after departure, provided space is available.

Practical for families and groups: Classic Rooms with connecting doors are available. This allows up to four people to travel together while still staying in their own sleeping rooms. For many travellers, the Classic Room is the best compromise between comfort, privacy and price.

Features & details

1 to 2 people per room; with connecting doors, up to 4 people in two connected Classic Rooms.

Caledonian Sleeper Club En-suite
Private shower and WC

Club En-suite

The Club En-suite Room offers a private sleeping room with two bunk beds, private bathroom with shower and WC, breakfast, room service, lounge access and priority access to the Club Car.

The Club En-suite Room is the higher sleeping-car category on the Caledonian Sleeper. You travel in a private room with two bunk beds, handmade Glencraft mattresses and a private bathroom with shower and WC. Both beds are set up on all journeys.

This category includes onboard breakfast, room service, Wi-Fi, USB charging points, power sockets, keycard access, temperature control, dimmable light and a sleep kit. It also includes lounge access at available stations, priority boarding at London Euston and priority access to the Club Car.

The Club En-suite Room is ideal if you want to travel comfortably and privately, but do not need a double bed. It is a very good choice especially for two people travelling together: you have separate beds, a private bathroom and the option of having breakfast in the Club Car or in your room in the morning.

The highest-quality category on the Caledonian Sleeper: private room with double bed, Glencraft mattress, private bathroom with shower and WC, breakfast, room service, lounge access and priority Club Car access.

The Caledonian Double En-suite is the top category on the Caledonian Sleeper. You travel in a private room with a double bed, handmade Glencraft mattress and private bathroom with shower and WC. The official website describes this category as the “flagship room”.

The equipment includes onboard breakfast, room service, lounge access at available stations, priority access to the Club Car, priority boarding at London Euston, washbasin in the room, Arran Sense of Scotland toiletries, sleep kit, Wi-Fi, USB charging points, power sockets, keycard access, temperature control and dimmable light.

This category feels most like a small hotel room on rails. It is especially pleasant for couples and comfort travellers who want to travel between London and Scotland as privately as possible, sleep well and arrive fresh in the morning.

Caledonian Sleeper Accessible Double Room
Accessible

Accessible Double Room

Accessible private room with double bed, more floor space, lowered washbasin and table, plus an accessible toilet directly next to the room.

The Accessible Double Room is designed for travellers with additional mobility needs. The room offers more floor space, a double bed with Glencraft mattress, a lowered washbasin, a lowered table and an accessible toilet directly next to the room.

On most routes, the Accessible Double Room provides wheelchair-accessible access to the Club Car; accessible seating is also available there. On the London–Fort William route, Club Car access is restricted, but orders can be placed from the room service menu.

Important for planning: Caledonian Sleeper states maximum dimensions for wheelchairs and mobility scooters of 70 cm width and 120 cm length; the combined weight of guest and luggage must not exceed 300 kg. Assistance with transferring from wheelchair to bed or toilet is also not provided.

Caledonian Sleeper: night train in Scotland
Accessible

Accessible Twin Room

Accessible private room with two bunk beds, more floor space, lowered washbasin and table, plus an accessible toilet directly next to the room.

The Accessible Twin Room is a private accessible sleeping room with two bunk beds, Glencraft mattresses, more floor space, a lowered washbasin and a lowered table. An accessible toilet is located directly next to the room.

This category makes sense if two travellers want separate beds or if an accessible room with bunk beds is a better fit than the Accessible Double Room. If the upper bed is to be stowed away, Caledonian Sleeper recommends contacting the Guest Service Centre no later than the day before travel.

Access to the Club Car is restricted depending on the route. In many cases, guests in the Accessible Twin Room can order from the room service menu. As with the Accessible Double Room, size and weight limits apply for wheelchairs and mobility scooters.

About the train

Information about the night train

The following notes apply generally to the train type used on this connection.

The Caledonian Sleeper is one of Europe’s best-known night trains and connects London with Scotland overnight. The service is not only aimed at travellers who simply want to get from A to B, but also at guests who want the overnight journey to be part of the travel experience. The trains run between London and Scottish destinations such as Edinburgh, Glasgow, Aberdeen, Inverness and Fort William. Typical features of the Caledonian Sleeper are private rooms, its own Club Car, room service, breakfast options, lounge access in higher categories and a clear range from simple seats to the premium Caledonian Double En-suite category. This makes the train especially interesting for journeys between London and Scotland, where you save a hotel night and arrive directly in the centre of your destination in the morning. The product is positioned more upmarket than many classic night trains. Even the Classic Room offers a private room with real beds and a washbasin. Club En-suite and Caledonian Double En-suite additionally offer a private bathroom with shower and WC.
Comfort & classes
The Caledonian Sleeper offers several comfort levels: Seated Coach, Classic Room, Club En-suite Room, Caledonian Double En-suite and accessible rooms. The Seated Coach is the lowest-priced category, but also the simplest for a long overnight journey. It offers a seat, Wi-Fi, power socket, USB port, reading light and at-seat service for food and drinks. The Classic Room is the solid sleeping-car category. You travel in a private room with two bunk beds, Glencraft mattresses, private washbasin, Wi-Fi, USB charging points, power sockets, keycard access and temperature control. Breakfast is not automatically included here, but can be purchased. Club En-suite and Caledonian Double En-suite are the higher categories. Both offer a private bathroom with shower and WC, onboard breakfast, room service, lounge access, priority Club Car access and modern room features. The Club En-suite has two bunk beds, while the Caledonian Double En-suite has a double bed.
Tickets & notes
Booking is best done directly online. Prices are dynamic and depend on route, travel date, demand and category. For that reason, I would not list fixed starting prices in the template unless they have been checked against specific booking data. The most important point is to choose the right category consciously: seat, Classic Room, Club En-suite, Caledonian Double or accessible room. For comfort categories with a private room, booking early is worthwhile. The Caledonian Double and Club En-suite Rooms are especially popular because they offer a private bathroom, breakfast and additional services. If you are travelling as a family, you should check the Classic Rooms with connecting doors. If you are travelling with a dog, bicycle, wheelchair or special assistance needs, you should check the relevant additional conditions carefully before booking. The booking page states a cancellation policy for tickets: 100% refund if cancelled at least 7 days before travel, and 50% refund until noon on the day before travel. This rule should still always be checked directly when booking, as fare conditions can change.
Travel tips
For the Caledonian Sleeper, it is worth planning the journey more like a hotel night on rails. Pack a small overnight bag: toothbrush, sleepwear, charging cable, medication, earplugs, water bottle and everything you need directly in the morning. Your larger luggage can then be stowed away and does not need to be moved during the night. If you travel in a Classic Room, Club En-suite or Caledonian Double, make use of the advantage of having a private room. Especially on a journey to Scotland, it is pleasant to settle in early, perhaps have something to eat in the Club Car, and then not have to organise much more. For seated travellers, preparation is more important: charge your device before the journey, bring water and warm clothing, and expect the night to be less restful than in a sleeping room. On the London–Fort William route, a coach change at Edinburgh Waverley may be required in the Seated Coach.
Food & drinks on board
The Caledonian Sleeper has a strong onboard food and drink offer. Meals, snacks and drinks are served in the Club Car; there is also room service for room guests and at-seat service in the Seated Coach. The official website highlights Scottish products and a range from hot dishes to snacks and drinks. Examples from the Club Car menu: butternut squash soup costs £9, haggis with neeps, tatties and whisky sauce £17, sea bass with pea velouté and baby potatoes £18, mac ’n’ cheese £15, nachos £9, a toasted sandwich £6 and chips £5. For drinks, a 50 ml single malt whisky usually costs £13, a 330 ml Scottish beer £5, Coca-Cola 330 ml £2.50, water 330 ml £2 and a barista coffee £3.50. Breakfast is included in Caledonian Double and Club En-suite. In the Classic Room and Seated Coach, breakfast is available, but not automatically included in the same way.
WiFi on board
Wi-Fi is part of the equipment in many Caledonian Sleeper categories. The Seated Coach lists internet access, Wi-Fi and several charging points; Classic Room, Club En-suite and Caledonian Double also list free Wi-Fi as well as USB charging points and sockets for small devices. Still, as on any train, download important content before the journey if you want to access it reliably. Especially in rural parts of Scotland, mobile reception can vary. For your ticket, alarm, navigation and entertainment, a power bank is still useful.
Bicycle transport
The Caledonian Sleeper offers free bicycle reservations. According to the official website, each train has secure spaces in the Seated Coach for 6 bicycles in racks and 2 bicycles in bags. All bicycles require a reservation. This is very practical for night train travellers, but also clearly limited. If you want to travel with a bicycle, you should plan the bicycle space directly with your journey and not rely on last-minute availability. Especially on tourist routes in Scotland, bicycle spaces can become scarce quickly.
Pets
Pets are possible on the Caledonian Sleeper, but only under clear conditions. Up to two pets may travel in rooms; a fee of £30 per journey is charged. According to Caledonian Sleeper, this fee covers the thorough cleaning after the journey. Pets are added directly during booking. Pets are not allowed in the Seated Coach or in the Club Car. They must not go on the beds and must remain on the floor during the journey. They also may not move into other coaches apart from the coach in which the booked room is located. Dogs are welcome in the Guest Lounges, but must be kept on a lead and are not allowed on furniture.
Car transport
The Caledonian Sleeper does not carry cars or motorcycles. It is a night train for passengers, not a car train. If you want to continue travelling in Scotland with your own vehicle, you should check a rental car at your destination or another form of travel.
