What travel categories are available on the Snälltåget night train?

On the Snälltåget night train there are seats, on some connections 1st Class seats, berths in shared compartments and private compartments. The berth and private compartments each have up to six berths. The private compartment is the most comfortable category because you do not share it with strangers.

What is the difference between a shared compartment and a private compartment?

In a shared compartment you book a single berth and share the compartment with other travellers. In a private compartment you book the entire compartment for yourself or your travel group. Both categories have up to six berths, but the private compartment offers significantly more peace and privacy.

Is there a sleeping car with a private bathroom on Snälltåget?

No. Snälltåget offers classic couchette compartments, but no sleeping car compartments with private shower and private WC. Toilets are located in the carriage. If you expect a private bathroom, you should choose a different night train product.

Is bedding included on Snälltåget?

Yes. In the berth and private compartments, bedding, pillows, pillowcases, sheets and blankets are provided. You make the bed yourself.

Is the seat recommended for a full night?

Only to a limited extent. The seat is cheap and usable for short sections. For a full night, a berth or private compartment is much more pleasant because you can lie down and have more peace.

Is there a dining car on Snälltåget?

On most departures there is the restaurant car Krogen. On the night train connection Malmö–Hamburg–Berlin–Dresden and back, there is instead a smaller kiosk with snacks and drinks. For hot meals and alcohol in Krogen, you should plan via “My Journey” with a table reservation.

How much does food cost on Snälltåget?

Examples from Krogen: meatballs with mashed potatoes cost 149 SEK, a vegan main dish 139 SEK, a shrimp sandwich 159 SEK, breakfast pre-ordered 99 SEK and on board 109 SEK. Coffee, tea, hot chocolate, water and soft drinks usually cost around 30 SEK.

Can I get breakfast on Snälltåget?

Yes. Breakfast can be pre-ordered when booking or later via “My Journey”. The classic breakfast includes a cheese sandwich, cinnamon bun, hot drink and juice. Vegan, gluten-free and lactose-free versions are available when pre-ordered.

Can I travel with Interrail or Eurail on Snälltåget?

Yes, Snälltåget is relevant for Interrail and Eurail, but you need a reservation for a seat, berth or compartment. The exact reservation depends on route, season and category and should be checked directly through Snälltåget or the Interrail/Eurail booking channels.

Can I take my bicycle on Snälltåget?

Usually not as a regular bicycle. Snälltåget states that regular bicycles cannot be taken on most trains because of limited space. Folding bikes are possible if they fit within the hand luggage dimensions. On certain summer and autumn trains to Jämtland and Härjedalen, a bicycle can be checked into the luggage coach.

Can I travel with a dog or pet on Snälltåget?

Yes, but only in designated areas or compartments. One pet is allowed per traveller. Pets must be stated when booking, are not allowed on seats or beds and must stay on the floor. According to Snälltåget, pets cannot travel to Austria.

How much luggage can I take on Snälltåget?

In general, two pieces of hand luggage up to 55 × 45 × 25 cm plus one small personal item are allowed. In a private compartment you can take more luggage because you can use free berths or seats in the compartment. On certain trains to Jämtland and Austria, additional luggage check-in is available for a fee.

Is Snälltåget suitable for families?

Yes, especially in a private compartment. Families travel together there, have more peace and do not have to share the compartment with strangers. For children, the night train is often a small adventure, and the private compartment is much more relaxed than seats or a shared compartment.

Is there Wi-Fi on Snälltåget?

You should not count on a stable internet connection. Download films, music, maps, tickets and travel documents before the journey. Especially on long international or seasonal routes, being prepared offline is the better strategy.

Can I take my car or motorcycle on Snälltåget?

No. Snälltåget is not a car train and does not transport cars or motorcycles. For onward travel at your destination, you should check rental cars, car sharing, local buses or rail connections.
