WHAT YOU SHOULD KNOW

Frequently asked questions about GWR Night Riviera

What is the GWR Night Riviera?
The GWR Night Riviera is the night train between London Paddington and Cornwall. It connects London overnight with places including Plymouth, Truro, St Erth and Penzance.
Which cities does the Night Riviera run between?
The Night Riviera runs between London Paddington and Penzance. Along the way, depending on the timetable, it serves important stations in south-west England, including Plymouth, Truro and St Erth.
Are there sleeping cabins on the Night Riviera?
Yes. The Night Riviera offers sleeping cabins for one or two people. For a full night, these cabins are clearly more pleasant than a seat.
Are there also seats on the Night Riviera?
Yes, there are also seats. They are usually cheaper than sleeping cabins, but clearly less restful for the full night. If you really want to sleep, a cabin is the better choice.
Does every cabin have its own shower?
No. The sleeping cabins normally have a washbasin, but no private shower. Cabin passengers can use showers at selected stations such as London Paddington, Penzance and Truro.
Is breakfast included on the Night Riviera?
For travellers in sleeping cabins, a light breakfast is included. For passengers with seats, you should not automatically assume this.
Is there a restaurant on the Night Riviera?
There is no classic Pullman Dining restaurant on the Night Riviera. Instead, there is a Lounge Bar with drinks, snacks and light meals. If you want a proper evening meal, eat before departure or bring your own food.
What is the difference between Night Riviera and GWR Pullman Dining?
Pullman Dining is a separate GWR offer on selected daytime trains. It is not the regular restaurant of the Night Riviera. On the Night Riviera, there is the Lounge Bar instead.
How much does the Night Riviera cost?
The price consists of the normal rail ticket and, when travelling in a cabin, an additional sleeper supplement or suitable sleeper booking. Cabin prices are dynamic and depend on season, booking time and occupancy. Always check the specific price directly in the GWR booking system.
Should I book the Night Riviera early?
Yes. Sleeping cabins in particular can become scarce quickly on popular travel days and during holiday periods. Booking early makes sense if you want a specific cabin type.
Can I travel alone in a cabin?
Yes. For solo travellers, the Solo cabin is the most pleasant solution. You have your own lockable cabin with a bed, washbasin and more privacy than in the seated coach.
Are there cabins for two people?
Yes. The Twin cabin is designed for two people and is especially suitable for couples, friends or people travelling together.
Is there Wi-Fi on the Night Riviera?
Wi-Fi is described for sleeping cabins and the Lounge Car, but you should still download important things before departure. On night trains, a stable connection is not always guaranteed.
Are there sockets in the cabins?
Yes, the sleeping cabins have charging options or sockets. A power bank is still useful, especially if you continue travelling directly the next morning.
Can I take my bicycle on the Night Riviera?
You should always check and reserve bicycle transport specifically. Bicycle spaces may be limited, especially during holiday periods. A regular bicycle does not belong in the sleeping cabin.
Can I travel with a dog or pet?
Pets are generally possible, but with clear rules. Dogs must be kept on a suitable lead, while other pets travel in a solid carrier. Animals must not sleep on the beds.
Are pets allowed in the Lounge Bar?
Only recognised assistance dogs are allowed in the Lounge Bar. You should not plan to take normal pets there.
Is the Night Riviera accessible?
There are special options for travellers with reduced mobility, but availability and exact facilities must be checked directly. If you need support, you should clarify the cabin, assistance and station situation with GWR early.
Can I take my car or motorcycle on the Night Riviera?
No. The GWR Night Riviera is not a car train. Car or motorcycle transport is not offered on this connection.
Who is the Night Riviera especially worthwhile for?
The Night Riviera is especially worthwhile for travellers between London and Cornwall who want to cover the long distance overnight. It is ideal if you want to arrive in Penzance, Truro or London in the morning without losing a full travel day.
