Amsterdam is an important night train location in the Netherlands and a major starting point for international overnight rail journeys. From here, there are direct connections to destinations including Vienna, Zurich, Innsbruck, Berlin and Prague. This makes Amsterdam especially suitable for journeys to Austria, Switzerland, southern Germany and Czechia.
The city is particularly interesting because of the combination of ÖBB Nightjet and European Sleeper services. Together, they provide direct night train connections towards both the Alpine region and Central Europe. For travellers from the Netherlands, Amsterdam is therefore one of the most important starting points for continuing overnight towards Southern and Eastern Europe without flying.
The most important station is Amsterdam Centraal. It is centrally located in the city and well connected to Dutch long-distance and regional rail services. Even so, it is worth checking the exact connection before travelling, as international night trains may also run via other Dutch cities such as Utrecht, Arnhem, Amersfoort or Deventer.
