In a compact space, you get your own screened-off sleeping berth with reading light, storage options, coat hook, mirror and a sliding folding table for breakfast.

Lockers for hand luggage and shoes are located directly next to the Mini Cabin. This keeps your most important belongings safely stored, so you do not have to take your luggage into the sleeping capsule. ÖBB Nightjet: reserved seats with numbers
Seat
Price from 35,00 EUR

Seated coach

The cheapest travel category in the new-generation Nightjet: modern seats in an open-plan coach with reservation, Wi-Fi and charging options.

The seated coach is the cheapest way to travel on the new-generation ÖBB Nightjet. The new coaches offer modern double shell seats with folding armrests, continuous headrests, reading lights and various storage options. Seat reservation is already included in the ticket.

This category is especially suitable if you want to travel cheaply or if you are on a shorter night train route. Compared with the couchette or sleeping car, comfort is naturally simpler because you do not travel lying down. In return, even in the seated coach of the new generation, you benefit from free Wi-Fi, power sockets or charging options and a modern open-plan coach. In the multifunction area there is also space for luggage, pushchairs, skis, snowboards and bicycles depending on the connection.

Features & details

1 seat in an open-plan coach
Privacy
Rather low to medium; you travel in an open seated coach with other passengers.

Accessible compartment

The accessible compartment in the new-generation ÖBB Nightjet is designed for travellers with reduced mobility and can be reached via low-floor access.

A modern accessible couchette compartment is available in the new-generation ÖBB Nightjet. It is designed for travellers with reduced mobility and, depending on occupancy, can be used by up to two wheelchair users and two accompanying persons. An accessible WC is located directly next to the compartment.

A major advantage of the new generation is the low-floor access in the corresponding coach. This makes boarding much easier. The compartment is designed for a night journey that is as pleasant and practical as possible and offers more freedom of movement than regular compartments. For good planning, the accessible compartment should be booked early and boarding or alighting assistance should be requested in good time.

Features & details

About the train

Information about the night train

The following notes apply generally to the train type used on this connection.

The new-generation ÖBB Nightjet is the most modern night train type in the Nightjet network. It was developed to offer more comfort, more privacy and a more contemporary travel experience. The trains offer sleeping cars, couchette cars, Mini Cabins, seated coaches and an accessible compartment. They also include free Wi-Fi, modern passenger information, power sockets, USB and wireless charging options, electronic access by NFC card in many areas, and a modern lighting and control system.

What makes this new generation especially pleasant is that it responds to many wishes of today’s night train travellers: private sleeping options for solo travellers, comfortable 2-person sleeping compartments, 4-person couchette compartments for families and groups, bicycle spaces in the multifunction coach and an accessible compartment with low-floor boarding. This makes the night train once again a very comfortable alternative for journeys between European cities.

Comfort & classes

The new-generation ÖBB Nightjet offers several comfort levels. The most comfortable option is the Comfort Plus sleeping car, with a private bathroom including WC and shower. The Comfort sleeping car also offers a private sleeping compartment for one or two people, with its own WC and shower facilities. Both sleeping car categories are especially suitable if you want to travel quietly, privately and with a high level of comfort.

The couchette car is the solid middle category on the night train: cheaper than the sleeping car, but much more comfortable than a seat. In the new generation there are modern 4-person compartments with fixed berths. The Mini Cabin is a special option for solo travellers: a compact private sleeping space with a high level of privacy. The seated coach is the cheapest category and is mainly suitable for budget-conscious travellers. There is also an accessible compartment for passengers with reduced mobility.

For female travellers, women-only compartments can also be booked in couchette and sleeping cars, subject to availability. If you travel with family or friends, you can book an entire compartment on many routes and travel without other passengers in the same compartment.

Tickets & notes
It is best to book early, as Nightjet prices depend on demand. Tickets are usually available up to 180 days before departure; around the annual timetable change, the booking period may be shorter. The cheapest offers are limited in number and tied to a specific train. If you want to stay flexible, you should check the conditions of the relevant fare carefully. When booking the new generation, pay attention to the term “comfort” and to the photos shown during the booking process. This helps you see whether new rolling stock is being used. Especially important: if you do not want to travel with other passengers in the same compartment, you must specifically book your own compartment or the correct occupancy. In the sleeping car this means Single or Double, depending on the number of people; in the couchette car, a private compartment is useful if available.
  • Seated coach: from EUR 35
  • Couchette: from EUR 55
  • Mini Cabin: from EUR 55
  • Accessible compartment: from EUR 55
  • Sleeping car Comfort: from EUR 99
  • Sleeping car Comfort Plus: from EUR 129
* Prices are entry-level fares per person and direction. They depend on route, travel date, booking time and availability.
Travel tips

For the new-generation ÖBB Nightjet, booking early is especially worthwhile. Comfort Plus sleeping cars, Comfort sleeping cars and Mini Cabins are very popular because they offer a lot of privacy. If you travel with children, a private couchette compartment is often the most pleasant solution: the family stays together, everyone can lie down, and the journey already begins in a relaxed way in the evening.

For the night, it is best to pack a small separate bag: toothbrush, sleepwear, charging cable, earplugs, water bottle and everything you need straight away in the morning. Your larger luggage can then stay stowed away. In the Mini Cabin, you should also pay attention to the hand luggage dimensions, as the lockers are more compact than a normal luggage rack. If you travel with a bicycle, dog or reduced mobility, check these points before booking, as they are not possible on every route or in every category in the same way.

Food & drinks on board
On the new-generation ÖBB Nightjet there is usually no classic dining car as you might find on a daytime train. Catering is handled by the train crew and the onboard menu. In the couchette car, mineral water and a Viennese breakfast are included. In the sleeping car, a welcome drink, an evening snack, mineral water and an à-la-carte breakfast with a hot drink are included. Drinks and snacks can also be purchased and served to your seat or compartment. In the sleeping car breakfast, 6 components are included; according to the breakfast menu, additional components cost EUR 1.20 each. Scrambled eggs are not part of the 6 included components and cost EUR 3.00 extra. Examples from the special sleeping car menu: egg sandwich EUR 4.10, turkey ham sandwich EUR 4.10, waffle with jam, Nutella or honey EUR 4.90, Nescafé cappuccino EUR 2.90 and organic forest berry iced tea EUR 3.40. The selection may vary depending on route and availability. On board, the train crew takes care of drinks, snacks and breakfast. In the sleeping car, breakfast is especially pleasant: you choose your breakfast components in the evening and receive them directly in your compartment in the morning. In the couchette car, a simple breakfast is included. Additional drinks and snacks can be ordered from the menu, subject to availability.
WiFi on board

The new-generation ÖBB Nightjet offers free Wi-Fi. You can use the ÖBB onboard portal Railnet night, browse the internet, stream and read digital newspapers or magazines. In addition, there is modern passenger information on the train, standard power sockets and charging options via USB and wireless charging station. New mobile-signal-permeable window panes are also intended to improve mobile phone reception.

Many compartments have a control display that lets you use comfort functions such as lighting control or the service call to the onboard staff. This is a clear improvement compared with older night train coaches and makes travelling on the new Nightjet feel noticeably more modern.

Bicycle transport
The new Nightjet generation has bicycle spaces in the multifunction coach. However, taking a bicycle is not possible on every route. You need a separate bicycle ticket and a reservation. Nightjet currently mentions bicycle transport mainly on selected routes between Austria, Germany, Switzerland and the Netherlands; the number of bicycle spaces varies depending on the route. On selected routes you can take your bicycle on the ÖBB Nightjet. A separate bicycle ticket with reservation is always required, usually at a price of EUR 12. As spaces are limited, you should book bicycle transport as early as possible together with your ticket.
Pets
Dogs may only travel on the ÖBB Nightjet if an entire compartment is booked. Dogs are not allowed in the Mini Cabin. A paid ticket is required for dogs, usually at a price of EUR 29; assistance dogs travel free of charge and do not need a muzzle. Small and harmless animals may be taken in closed, secure containers if these can be stowed as luggage; according to Nightjet, an entire compartment is required here as well. If you travel with a dog, please book an entire compartment and check the conditions carefully before your journey. Dogs are not allowed in the Mini Cabin. Small animals can travel in suitable transport boxes if the requirements are met.
Car transport

Car transport is not a general feature of every Nightjet route and is not automatically part of the new generation. Taking a car or motorcycle is only possible on certain routes and must be booked separately. You need a separate vehicle ticket for the vehicle; all passengers travelling with it also need a personal Nightjet ticket. ÖBB offers vehicle tickets online, through customer service, at ticket counters and through travel agencies that sell tickets, among other channels.

For Austria, Nightjet lists dedicated car and motorcycle offers; for Croatia, the EuroNight between Vienna and Split is mentioned. For car transport, vehicle dimensions, roof structures, loading times and timely arrival at the loading terminal are important. Loading usually begins 1 to 2 hours before departure. Passengers and animals are not allowed to remain in the vehicle during transport.

On selected Nightjet and EuroNight routes, you can also take a car or motorcycle. A separate vehicle ticket is required for this. Before booking, check whether car transport is offered on your route and pay attention to loading times as well as the rules on vehicle dimensions and roof structures.
